Tech billionaire Elon Musk finds himself entangled in a legal dispute with his former partner, Grimes, over parental rights concerning their three children. The couple, who dated on and off from 2018 until their official separation in September 2021, shares the responsibility of raising their offspring.
Grimes, whose legal name is Claire Boucher, recently filed a petition in San Francisco Superior Court seeking to establish a parental relationship with Mr. Musk, who is 52 years old, while she is 35. The crux of her petition revolves around an alleged denial of access to one of their children by Mr. Musk.
In her filing, Grimes is urging the court to address the complex issue of determining the legal parents of a child born to unmarried individuals, further intensifying the legal battle between the two.
The couple’s parental journey began with the birth of their son, X AE A-12, and later expanded when they welcomed a daughter via surrogate in 2021, naming her Exa Dark Siderael Musk. In a surprising revelation, it was disclosed that the couple also has a third child, a boy named Techno Mechanicus.
Grimes’ legal action follows their official split and comes as a response to alleged difficulties in maintaining a shared parenting arrangement. The lawsuit adds another layer of complexity to their already intricate personal history.
It was only recently divulged in Walter Isaacson’s biography, “Elon Musk,” that the couple had a third child together. The biography also unveiled some unique aspects of their relationship, including Elon Musk’s grand gesture of wooing Grimes with a high-speed Tesla Autopilot ride.
In a separate interview with Wired magazine, Grimes offered insights into her relationship with Musk, characterizing it as “the best internship ever.” She praised Musk as a “great general” professionally and explained his propensity for engaging in a wide range of social issues. She also hinted at the unique upbringing their children would experience, noting that “being Elon’s kid is not the same as being anyone’s kid.”
It’s worth noting that Elon Musk has fathered a total of 10 living children with three different women. His children include five with Canadian author Justine Wilson – Griffin, Vivian, Kai, Saxon, and Damian – and twins born to Neuralink director of operations and special projects Shivon Zilis in November 2021, just a month prior to the birth of his second child with Grimes.
The legal battle over parental rights is expected to unfold in the San Francisco Superior Court, casting a spotlight on the intricacies of co-parenting in high-profile relationships.
